Primary malignant tumors of the cervical spine.

چکیده
Primary malignant tumors of the cervical spine are rare1 but challenging because of the spine’s unique structure and proximity to vital structures. A thorough clinical and imaging investigation is necessary for the oncological and surgical staging of these lesions. New operative techniques for aggressive en bloc resection of these tumors through combined anterior and posterior approaches and reconstruction of the spinal column have improved the oncological outcome with low local recurrence rates and increased patient survival.2-11

Epidemiological characteristics of primary spinal osseous tumors in Eastern China
BACKGROUND Primary spinal osseous tumors are rare, yet they represent a difficult treatment paradigm because of the complexities of tumor resection and significant resistance to chemotherapy and radiation therapy. Background: Chordomas are malignant tumors arising from notochordal remnants and are typically locally aggressive tumors with a high propensity for local recurrence. Method: We report an extremely rare case of cervical spine chordoma presenting with neurological deficit and retropharyngeal extension in order to assess the clinical presentation and treatment. Results: We describe a case of 82-ye...

متن کاملStudying the specificity of bone SPECT for differentiating malignant from benign lesions in the vertebral column of the patients with a known primary malignancy [Persian]
Metastatic survey of the patients with known primary malignancies with bone scan is one of the most common studies in nuclear medicine. Unfortunately the conventional planar bone scan has a very low specificity for differentiating benign from malignant lesions especially in the spinal column. In this study, we compared the specificity of SPECT imaging and convention...
متن کاملPrimary bone non-Hodgkin lymphoma of the cervical spine: case report and review.
Primary bone lymphomas (PBL) account for approximately 3% of all malignant tumors and are commonly found in the femur or pelvis. Only 1.7% of the PBLs are found in the spine. We report the case of a 73-year-old male complaining of cervical pain with progressive loss of strength and frequent falls. The MRI showed invasion of the fourth cervical vertebra and an infiltrating prevertebral mass. A C...
